Anyanwu to Imo Govt: Go Beyond Road Rehabilitation, Address Salary, Pension Matters

Sen. Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu has called on the present APC government in Imo state to look beyond road rehabilitation, and address issues of salary cuts and pension matters.

The ex- Senator said that in as much as good road network was a veritable tool that can boost the economic produce in the state, there was need for government to be responsive in the payment of salary and pensions.

He urged the state government to fast track the completion of ongoing road projects before the rainy season, regretting that Imo people had suffered untold hardship occasioned by bad governance in the past and should not be allowed to experience same again.

According to him, “one of the major legacies of a good administration is prompt payment of salaries, pensions and construction of quality road network”, adding that Imo people would not beg the APC government for that, pointing out that it remains their constitutional rights to enjoy them.

Anyanwu, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in the state advised the APC government not to be carried away by its achievements so far, and challenged them to go beyond claims of road rehabilitations.

He appealed to the government to urgently look into the plight of civil servants and pensioners in the state, adding that it is unfair for anyone to abandon those that spent their lives in the service of the state. While commending the state government for putting all security measures in place, charged Imo people to guard against strange movement within their communities and report same to appropriate quarters for prompt action as part of efforts to protect lives and properties.
